The Seventh Edition of the Miami International Ballet Competition Announces its Winners

Founding Artistic Directors Vladimir Issaev and Yanis Pikieris are proud to announce the Miami International Ballet Competition’s seventh edition awarded dancers. The event was hosted at the Julius Littman Performing Arts Theater from January 17 to January 21, 2024.

This year, MIBC awarded fourteen individual participants, two ensembles, and two pas de deux couples with gold, silver, and bronze medals, with an approximate value of $10,000 in cash awards, as well as dance merchandise prizes sponsored by RP Brand (Russian Pointe), So Dança, Dancewear by Patricia, Dance Buddy, Patricia’s Photography, Evas arts and other vendors, valued in more than $10,000. 

Additionally, awardees received about 70 international scholarship awards to important ballet schools in Europe, Asia, and the United States, as well as scholarships to enter international ballet competitions in the United States, Asia, and Europe. These scholarships were valued at approximately $90,000.  

For the Individual Category, the awarded dancers are as follows:

Division 1 – 9 to 11 years old: Chiara Marambio, from Peru (Rosie Schottland BAllet Clasico) First Place – Gold Medal; Elle Martinos, from USA (BLA Dance Academy) Second Place – Silver Medal; Anna S. Alvarez, from Mexico (Ballet Chasse) Third Place – Bronze Medal. 

Division 2 – 12 to 14 years old: Fatima Bodden, from Panama (Independant) First Place – Gold Medal; Rose Perez, Zoe J. Holladay, Yui Hiraga, from USA and Japan (IB Classical Dance, Fort Lauderdale Youth Ballet, Riyo Ballet Arts) Second Place – Silver Medal; Lina Valdes-Estevez and Alicianna Rodriguez, from USA (Miami Youth Ballet and BalletCNJ) Third Place – Bronze Medal. 

Division 3 – 15 to 18 years old: Jacquelyn Ng, from USA (Hollywood Ballet Academy) First Place – Gold Medal; Angel Cazares, from Mexico (Fort Lauderdale Youth Ballet) Second Place – Silver Medal; Natalie Mestres and Francesca Moro, from USA and Peru (Miami Youth Ballet and Rosie Schottland Ballet Clasico) Third Place – Bronze Medal. 

Division 4 – 19 to 25 years old: Kanau Shiina, from Japan (Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida) First Place – Bronze Medal;

For the Ensemble Category, the awarded dancers were from Vladimir Issaev School of Classical Ballet with “What happened to Tuesday?”  in Division I, Choreographed by Lusian Hernandez; and in Division II, Vladimir Issaev School of Classical Ballet and Miami Youth Ballet with “Caterpillar” and “O Fortuna ”; choreography by Veronika Perepelitsina and Alexandra Rocha 

For the Pas de Deux Category, the awarded couples are as follows: Remina Tanaka and Yayoi Sasaki, from Japan , First Place – Silver Medal (Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida); Kanon Murakami and Jose Pechene, from JApan and Colombia, Second Place – Silver Medal (Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida)

Moreover, MIBC gave the Ewa Glowacka Award to Remina Tanaka, from the Pas de Deux Category; The Founders Directors’ Encouragement Award to Katheryn Elgarresta and Emily Gallego, soloists from Division II; Best Choreographer Award to Giselle Muelle, for the piece “Ivana Pas De Chat” interpreted by Chiara Marambio of Division I; the Best Ballet School Award to Rosie Schottland Ballet Clasico and The Florida Ballet. 

All dancers and ensembles were invited to perform at The Miami International Ballet Celebration, the closing gala performance that brought the event to an end. For this elegant event, MIBC invited Mayara Pineiro and Ashton Roxander, Principal dancers at Philadelphia Ballet, to perform Don Quixote Pas De Deux, Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami to perform “Voyager,” by Yanis Eric Pikieris, and Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida to perform “Vuelo” by Vladimir Issaev. The professional ballet companies and guest artists shared the stage with the awarded dancers.
